I stopped by the National Zoo today. It's great walking around and seeing so many fascinating animals up close. My favorite animals are Tigers, Lions, Cheetahs, and Wolves. I can't wait to return, hopefully it'll be cloudy so I can stay a little longer.
Got up way too early and drove down to Jones Point Park in Alexandria, Virginia. Jones Point Park is an excellent place to visit for the whole family. It has a playground, basketball courts, hiking/biking trails, piers, and a lighthouse. Jones Point Lighthouse was built in 1855 and used as a warning light to ships approaching the Washington Navy Yard. My favorite part about visiting Jones Point is the incredible view of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.
Took a trip to Piney Point Lighthouse in Saint Mary's County with the Calvert Photography Club. It is one of the oldest lighthouses on the Potomac River, built in 1836. There's plenty to explore, including a boardwalk, beach, museum, and pier.
Had a wonderful time with the Savoy family who's expecting little Makhi in the next few months.
Went to Patapsco State Park today in Elkridge, Md seeking the shade of it's towering plant life. Seems like a lot of other people had the same idea. Here are some photos from today.
I spent the last day of 2011 at Cedarville State Forest in Brandywine, Maryland. My favorite part of the forest has to be Zekiah Swamp. The sights and sounds are so relaxing. It feels good to get away from civilization from time to time and just be one with nature.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful Thanksgiving! I am thankful for being constantly surrounded by amazing friends and family.
The family and I were sitting around the house with nothing to do, so we decided to have some fun with a photoshoot. The photos below were taken with the flash off of the camera and placed on the left(camera left) of the subject. I processed the photos for artistic effect but you can still see the contrast between the lights and shadows. If you are interested in learning flash photography, check out http://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/03/lighting-101.html. It's an incredible resource for learning flash photography techniques. I'm shooting with a Nikon D5000 and a Nikon Sb 700 flash
Had an excellent photo shoot with the Morgan family this morning. It was an honor to photograph such a warm, fun, and loving family. When you have such wonderful subjects, it's extremely easy to lose track of time.
The location was in Mechanicsville, Maryland off of Route 5 south. On the drive there, I was amazed by all the great sites we passed. There were plenty of barns, farms, and fields just begging to be photographed. Upon pulling into the neighborhood, I was immediately amazed by the charming rural character of the area. The road was rich with dark tones with lovely fields and homes occupying both sides of the street. Little did I know that this charm was nothing compared to the great personalities which make up the Morgan family.
